ANNOUNCING entry DEADLINE EXTENSION TO AUGUST 27, 2021

 
 

DESCRIPTION

Scottsville Center for Arts and the Natural Environment invites applicants to submit a cohesive body of work to be featured in our newest exhibit: “VALLEY • STREET • SCAPE”. SCAN is a nonprofit that seeks to create a space for the exploration of the natural environment through the arts. This juried exhibition is open to any applicant working in any medium.

In partnership with the Town of Scottsville, this exhibit will utilize the space in vacant storefronts in downtown Scottsville in the interest of activating the public realm while bringing art and design to the community. This partnership will allow applicants to exhibit their work, connect to their communities, and help showcase storefronts for rent or sale. The exhibition will open September 25, 2021. Selected applicants will receive an honorarium. A jury of engaged artists and community members will select qualified applicants based on the following criteria:

● Caliber of work and proposed exhibition

● Experience and interest in works relationship to the public realm

● Understanding and alignment with the goals of the project

● Ability to maintain project commitments

CALL FOR SUBMISSION

We ask that applicants be mindful of the type of space and take into consideration that displays in storefronts will be subjected to long hours of sunlight exposure. Work can inhabit a depth of 10’ into the spaces . All work must be available for exhibition from August to February and must be received by SCAN the week of September 13. SCAN, with the assistance of the applicant, if needed, will install work and de-install work at the conclusion of the exhibit.

WORK SCALE AND SIZE

There is no limit to the size of work. The scale of work selected will be in relation to the scale of the storefronts and dependent on space availability. Large scale work is preferred.

HOW TO APPLY

Send the requirements below to getcurious@svilleartsandnature.org by August 27th.

Entry Requirements:

1. 5-10 digital images of the cohesive body of work. Images should be presented in JPEG format and no larger than 1.5 MBS each. Clearly identify the images using the following filename format: Lastname_Firstname_01.jpg, Lastname_Firstname_02.jpg, etc

2. Description of body of work and short Artist Biography or Description of Organization (300 word limit)

3. Optional - a one page resume, CV or Website

TIMELINE

August 27 | Entry Deadline

September 3 | Applicants will be notified of selection

September 13-22 | Delivery and installation of work

September 25 | Exhibition opening
