PAINT MAKING WITH EARTH PIGMENTS

COST: $25 + $10 Materials
COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this workshop, participants will make their own watercolor paints using earth pigments. Earth pigments will be made available during the workshop, as well as mixing tools, mediums, watercolor paper and brushes. Participants are encouraged to bring pigments they have collected to share (optional) and will take home their paintings as well as a set of earth pigment watercolor paints they have made.
MATERIALS TO BRING:
-Small amount of colored earth collected from your home garden or surroundings (optional).
-Apron or clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Laura Josephine Snyder is a visual artist living and working in Charlottesville, Virginia. She explores memory, emotion and cognition through abstraction and an embodied practice. Currently, she is delving into the study and application of natural pigments, their historical significance and their intrinsic reference to place. Her work has been shown recently in the solo-exhibition "Yellow Ochre, Red Clay" in the Gallery at Studio IX in Charlottesville and in the group exhibition and launching of the publication "MALA LECHE" with the Feminist Union of Charlottesville Creatives (FUCC). She has a Masters of Visual Arts from the UNAM, Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City and a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design.
