LOCATION: SCAN Land

COST: $30/WORKSHOP

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This program will consist of two separate classes:

  • Natural Wall Hook Carving (12PM-1:30PM) - Come carve and create your own natural wall hook. We will seek and select materials by observing the natural growth patterns of small shrub trees found on the SCAN property. Using traditional hand tools each individual will create their very own functional wall hook. Tools and materials will be provided by the instructor, but bring your own tools if you have them.

  • Butter/Jam Spreader (1:30PM-3PM) - this course will investigate the use of traditional hand tools in carving your very own butter/jam spreader from a piece of green wood. Tools and materials will be provided by the instructor, but bring your own tools if you have them.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Zach Chrisinger is a green woodworker, who specializes in turning wooden bowls, plates, and cups on a foot-powered lathe, spoon carving, and small furniture pieces. Using traditional woodworking tools and methods, each piece is created with very minimal environmental impact, and using only the necessary hand tools, and using sustainably harvested materials, typically trees that are naturally downed. Zach was born and raised in Virginia, and recently moved to midcoast Maine, where he continues to practice his craft.
